TV show auditions

One of our members is doing an open casting Sunday Jan 31st at 1-4pm at Old Car Heaven located at 115 35th Street South for a TV show called View of the City.

View of the City is a half-hour Web- and cable-based show that takes a scathingly affectionate look at Birmingham news, politics, entertainment, and culture. We’re looking for a wide variety of talent to serve as correspondents for news segments and as actors for sketches and commercials.

Men and women ages 20-35

TV, comedy, and/or improv experience preferred but not required.

Come prepared with a 1:00-1:30 comic piece (monologue, stand-up routine, improv, etc.)

Bring resume and head shot, if available.

Happy New Year

As we begin the new year, we will be adding and expanding this site to include more information on our core members. Also as we discussed at our past meeting, we will be defining our membership a little more into 2 groups, core members and associate members. Core members are those that are regular attendees (4 a year) at our meetings and contribute to the group.

Topics for next meeting Sunday Nov 22

Just a heads up to our members and interested members. We will be discussing dates for some future events that are in the plans, these are in addition to the networking , introductions and casting talk that is standard for each meeting. The topic/business part is just one part.

One is the workshop, two others are shoots that will require some travel. One we are planning to shoot in the northeastern part of the state and the other is for a shoot in New Orleans.

We are also going to discuss some basic membership requirements. This won’t involve any costs, but a minimum meeting attendance requirement to stay a member (like 3 a year), and possibly limiting some or all events to members only.

We also initially were not going to have a December meeting but some have expressed wanting to have a least some type of get together maybe more like a Christmas party or Holiday party to be more politically correct. So we will discuss this as well.

Date: Sunday Nov 22nd 4pm

Location: UAB Campbell Hall room 301, Campbell Hall is on north side of University Blvd between 13th and 14th Streets.

Group shoot Sunday November 8th

Date:  Sunday November 8th

Time: 2pm-5pm

Location: will be sent to you once registration is completed and verified. It is an area in the downtown Birmingham area. Within a 3 block radius there is a good variety of things to use as backdrops.

Requirements for photographers:
Every photographer must bring at least 1 model
Every photographer must provide to each model the images he shots at appropriate size for the web or larger (with logo ok), as well as any MUA, wardrobe, hairstylist that help to style the shot. Additional negotiations can happen between model, mua, stylist, etc and each photographer. This need not happen on site, but if a photographer does not provide the images, then they will not be allowed to attend future events. Photographers please plan time to edit images, so you can deliver this within 10 days of the shoot. If final versions can’t be delivered in 10 days, at least a proof or unedited version for viewing purpose, and final no later than 21 days. If you don’t think you can make these dates you might be to busy to participate.

Models are required:
Sign a usage agreement for each photographer they shoot with (specifics will vary from photographer to photographer, most photographers will bring own release)

Models are advise to:
Bring multiple outfits, bring some accessories that can easily change the look of an outfit.

We will have a central location to check in, coordinate assignments, changing tents, sign paperwork, etc

Our goal for the event is that no 2 photographers will leave the event having the same image. We have planned a way so that unique images can be created by all.

Meet and greet/networking event Sunday October 25th

Our next meeting is set for 4pm on Sunday October 25th, 2009. Unless it changes we will be at UAB in Campbell Hall room 301 (classroom).

Here is a tentative agenda:

Arrival and socializing. Past attendees make sure to introduce yourself to new attendees.

Quick introductions by new attendees.

Topic discussion. Last time we talked a good bit about goals for the group and then spent time planning for those goals.

Group shoot discussion. We will have a follow up evaluation of our first event that happened on Sunday October 11th and begin planning for the next group shoot in November.

Plans for next event (tentative workshop on posing, as a model, and how to direct as a photographer) will be discussed, planned, etc.

Casting announcements (if not casting but only looking for work [please realize most/all are looking for paid work but utilize this for both oppurtunities] a quick blurb about that). Go around the room and each person has opportunity to announce castings.

Time to talk with those you want to work and to fulfil casting. Also for the photographers to shoot models at the mini setups and other photogs, mua’s, etc (not only models may want some photos of themselves).
