First off let me thank some people, mainly Stephen Humphrey the publisher of Birmingham Weekly (www.bhamweekly.com ), for hosting our event. We had wanted to change location for a little bit of a change from our previous events. I had met Stephen via William Crow briefly after Bob Gruen (www.bobgruen.com) had given his talk on his life’s work at the Birmingham Musuem of Art. So Stephen, we all are very appreciative that you hosted our event.
I also want to thank Steve Higginbotham of Cameras Brookwood (www.camerasbrookwood.com ) for the giveaways that he provided us. I have known Steve for a number of years and am glad he is active with our group.
I also want to thank Avondale Brewing Company (www.avondalebrewingcompany.com) for selling us a small (I think they call it 1/6th) keg of Spring Street Saison (via the distributor) for our event. This is the beer responsible for my intoxication that evening. But I enjoyed it immensely, and I will be drinking more in the near future.
Ok, now some pictures. I will write more below and I am sure more later.

Well its time for our monthly dinner this wednesday, the third wednesday of the month. It will be in a different location than we usually have it, we are going to Cajun Steamer in Hoover ( located in the Patton Creek Shopping Center, behind the Galleria, close to the Rave Movie Theater). The address is 180 Main Street, Suite 200 Hoover, AL 35244.
If you would please RSVP by sending us a email if you will be attending, since this is a full service restaurant (vs the cafeteria style at Jason’s that we usually do dinner at) we need a head count so we know what size table to get. If you don’t want to eat, that is fine, come hang out and chat.

I thought it would be good to post some networking tips that I have seen and learned from articles, websites, blogs, etc. For those of you who don’t regularly network, this is some great info. Here are 8 tips.
Networking, just not for now, but for life
Networking is a lifestyle for everyone, not merely something for business professionals. People network to find a great apartment/house, or to get their child in to the right school. Musicians network to get discovered, politicians network to garner support, real estate moguls network to create the deal. Networking is a vital part of everyday life. It’s about building the right set of relationships so that you’re an insider, not an outsider.

Looks like we will have another great turnout for our event on the 23rd. But please keep spreading the word to those you have worked with or would like to work with. I would really love to have record attendance at this event.
Thanks

Not sure if you have heard or seen ads for the current exhibition at the BMA. I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet but plan to soon. Here is some info on the event:
This summer, the Birmingham Museum of Art presents Who Shot Rock & Roll, the first major museum exhibition on rock & roll to put photographers in the foreground, acknowledging their creative and collaborative role in the history of rock music.
From its earliest days, rock & roll was captured in photographs that personalized, and frequently eroticized, the musicians, creating a visual identity for the music. The photographers were handmaidens to the rock & roll revolution, and their images communicate the social and cultural transformations that rock has fostered since the 1950s.
The exhibition is in six sections: rare and revealing images taken behind the scenes; snapshots of young musicians at the beginnings of their careers; exhilarating photographs of live performances that display the energy, passion, style, and sex appeal of the musicians on stage; powerful images of the crowds and fans that are often evocative of history paintings; portraits revealing the soul and creativity, rather than the surface and celebrity, of the musicians; and conceptual images and album covers highlighting the collaborative efforts between the image makers and the musicians.

Dinner last night was good as always. I always enjoy my salad at Jason’s deli. Anyway, we had a great get together and as usual, I didn’t get home until almost 11pm, so I basically talked for 4 hours about various photography related things.
